As a rule of thumb, the older the vine, the tastier the grape. And Château Trotte Vieille own some of the oldest vines in Bordeaux – their Cabernet Franc crops are 140 years old. You can certainly taste the benefits in this blend of almost equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It’s powerful and dense, with luscious notes of cassis, liquorice, blueberry, toast and cigar box. We suggest pairing it with something equally luxurious, like venison in a red wine sauce. Wine Enthusiast gave the 2011 vintage 94 points.
